Most Likely EN 301 489 Series Regulations to be Released/Updated in 2026:
EN 301 489-1 (General EMC Benchmark)
Expected: Next version V2.3.x may be released in 2026-2027
Reasons:
• OJEU added several restrictions to 301 489-1 in 2025
• ETSI committee has initiated WI to patch performance criteria
• Requires simultaneous upgrade as the basis for the entire 301 489 series
EN 301 489-3 (Short-Range Devices, SRD)
Expected: V2.4.x may be updated in 2026
Coverage:
• RFID 13.56 MHz
• LPWAN (LoRa, Sigfox)
• UWB, radar sensor
• 24 GHz / 60 GHz sensing (currently being addressed by ETSI) (Convergence and Integration)
SRD categories change rapidly → ETSI updates approximately every 12-18 months.
The last version, V2.3.2, was in 2024 → based on the normal cycle, a new version is expected in 2026.
EN 301 489-17 (Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / Broadband Data)
Expected: V3.4.x or V3.5.x may be released in 2026
Reasons:
• Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) has been finalized in 2024–2025
• Many countries (EU/UK/KR/US) are opening additional 6 GHz (AFB, AFC) bands
• EMC performance criteria need to be expanded to 320 MHz channel
• ETSI has already started the next revision of the WI draft by the end of 2025 (DTS/EN 301 489-17)
EN 301 489-52 (Cellular: LTE / NR UE EMC)
Expected: V1.4.x may be launched in 2026
Reasons:
• 5G NR FR1/FR2 EMC test items are being revised (ETSI) (EE and 3GPP RAN G are being updated)
• EMC requirements for 5G RedCap (NR-Light) need to be formally included.
• EMC requirements for NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) equipment are also planned to be included in 2026-2027.
