The European Union Electro technical Standards Commission has released the DOW (mandatory) dates of the new versions of the nickel battery and lithium battery standards EN 62133-1:2017 and EN 62133-2:2017, which means that the old version EN 62133:2013 will become invalid and will no longer be used and approved from March 14, 2020.

Batteries have become an important part of various types of electronic and electrical products. This will cause the use of the old version of the standard certification of battery certificates and reports to be invalidated and not recognized by the finished product certification, which will require battery manufacturers and finished product manufacturers to purchase Battery when attached. At present, when applying for EU CE certification for new models of a series of terminal products such as IT, AV, household appliances, lighting, etc., manufacturers of finished products require battery suppliers to provide EN 62133-1: 2017, EN 62133-2: 2017 or the latest version of IECEE CB reports and certificates. For older models that have obtained CE certification, the manufacturer should update the battery report in a timely manner.

There is a big difference between the old and new standards. Battery manufacturers need to update their product designs in time to meet the new standards.

IEC 62133-2:2017 lithium ion batteries, new edition

(note: the following old version refers to: IEC 62133:2012;

                         the new version refers to: IEC 62133-2:2017)

01. The new edition of IEC 62133 divides lithium batteries and nickel batteries into two standards.

That is, nickel batteries correspond to IEC 62133-1:2017, while lithium batteries correspond to IEC 62133-2:2017.

02. Lithium button batteries are included in the new edition of IEC 62133-2:2017;

03. Battery pretreatment:

Old version: battery cells and batteries need to be pretreated by charging at high temperature and low temperature respectively:

New version: only the battery cell according to the manufacturer's claimed charging method for charging pretreatment;

04. External short circuit test:

The old version:

The external short circuit test of the cell was conducted at 20±5°C.

External short circuit test was conducted at 55±5°C.

A new version:

The external short circuit test of the cell was conducted at 55±5°C.

External short circuit test of the battery was conducted at 20±5°C.

05. Thermal shock test:

Old version: keep the small cell in the oven at 130±2°C for 10 minutes and the large cell for 30 minutes;

New version: cell in 130±2°C oven for 30 minutes;

06. Extrusion test:

The old version:

The test pressure is 13±1 KN. The test cut-off conditions are:Voltage drop by 1/3;10% deformation;

A new version:

The test pressure is 13kn ± 0.78kn. The test cut-off conditions are:Voltage drop by 1/3;

07 overcharge test:

The old version:

Charge with 2C current constant current and voltage up to :(5 × n), n refers to the number of cells in series;

Test cut-off conditions: until the battery surface temperature returns to room temperature or the temperature change is less than 10 degrees within half an hour;

A new version:

Charge with 2C current constant current and the voltage reaches:

Single cell battery: charge with 2C current constant current to 1.4× upper limit charging voltage, no more than 6v;

Multi-cell battery: charge with 2C current constant current (1.2× upper limit charging voltage × n), n refers to the number of cells in series;

Test cut-off conditions: until the battery surface temperature returns to room temperature or the temperature change is less than 10 degrees within half an hour;

08. Forced discharge test:

The old version:

The discharged cell is reversely charged with 1C current for 90 minutes;

A new version:

The discharged cell is reversely charged with 1C current to the negative value of the upper limit charging voltage for 90 minutes;

09. Transportation section test:

The old version:

IEC 62281 test items for all transport sections;

A new version:

Evaluation of vibration and acceleration impact only;

10. New button battery ac internal resistance test item.
