Previously, the Saudi Organization for Standards, Metrology, and Quality (SASO) and the Committee on Communications, Space, and Technology (CST) announced the mandatory implementation requirements for a unified charging port for mobile phones and electronic devices in the Saudi market, and the USB Type-C will become the only standardized connector in Saudi Arabia. It is said that this measure is to uphold the principle of sustainable development, reduce electronic wire loss, and improve the quality of data transportation.

The enforcement of this decision will be carried out in two phases, the first phase will start on January 1, 2025, and the second phase will start on April 1, 2026. If major manufacturers plan to export their products to Saudi Arabia, they should pay attention to the technical and management requirements stipulated in technical regulations and relevant standards, and set the charging port type to USB Type-C to meet market demand.
