In the second half of 2024, the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information (KOMINFO) issued Decision No. 352 of 2024 (Nomor 352 Tahun 2024), the main content of the resolution is the technical standards for telecommunications equipment and mobile telecommunications systems based on LTE and 5G (IMT-2020). The release of the new regulations marks an important step for Indonesia in the field of wireless communications, providing more spectrum options for smartphones and other WWAN-enabled devices.

New subscriber stations, base stations and Repeaters in the new regulations can use LTE and 5G NR bands as detailed below:

The new bands available for LTE are as follows:

1. Specific frequency band allocation is provided for LTE user stations and base stations, such as b28 and b31.

2. For Repeaters, specific frequency bands including b1, b3, b5, b8, b28, and b31 (without b40) are also assigned to expand the coverage of LTE networks and improve signal quality.

It should be noted that the b40 band is not included in the designated frequency band of the repeater. This may be because the b40 band is not suitable for use in Repeaters in certain regions or in specific situations, or is excluded for other technical or regulatory reasons.

The new 5G frequency bands are as follows :

n28 (FR1) and n258 (FR2) are added as available frequencies for user stations and base stations respectively

FR1(n28) : FR1 is a low-band range in 5G networks, of which n28 is a specific frequency band. Low frequency bands have better propagation characteristics, are able to cover longer distances, and are often used to provide extensive network coverage, especially in remote areas or on the edge of cities. Suitable for application scenarios such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, telemedicine and emergency communications.

FR2(n258) : FR2 is a high frequency band (also known as millimeter wave band) in 5G networks, of which n258 is a specific frequency band. High frequency bands provide higher data transmission rates and capacities, but travel shorter distances and are often used to provide high-speed data transmission and network coverage of dense areas. It is suitable for application scenarios requiring high bandwidth and low latency, such as HD video transmission, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).
