On September 10, 2025, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) released a key Notice 2025-DRS0006, intending to adopt the ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024 -11) standard as the designated method for Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) testing. This initiative aims to further enhance the technical standardization and compatibility of relevant equipment.
According to the RSS-247 standard issued on July 24, 2025, the current reference standards for DFS testing include the KDB 905462 series documents (such as KDB 905462 D02, D03, D04) and ETSI EN 301 893 v 1.8.1 (2015-03). Under the existing testing framework, ETSI EN 301 893 is currently accepted as an alternative to KDB 905462 for Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) testing, except in the 5600-5650 MHz band, where it is the only accepted method.
To ensure a smooth industry transition, ISED proposes a six-month transition period during which either ETSI EN 301 893 V1.8.1 (2015-03) or ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024-11) may be used to demonstrate compliance with ISED’s dynamic frequency selection (DFS) requirements. After the transition period, new certifications shall use ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024-11). The updated standard provides additional information for client devices with radar detection.
Additionally, ISED encourages relevant enterprises and organizations to actively participate in this standard update process. Comments related to the adoption of the ETSI standard may be submitted before November 19th, 2025 at consultationradiostandards-consultationnormesradio@ised-isde.gc.ca or using the Standard Change Request form.
