At approximately 8:20 PM local time on September 26th, a fire broke out in a computer room on the fifth floor of the National Information Resources Management Agency (NIMIA), part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. A lithium-ion battery exploded and caused a fire. The agency, the core hub of South Korea's national computer network, shut down 647 government systems, severely impacting government services.
South Korean Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety, Kim Min, stated at a press conference on the 27th that the government will prioritize restoring key service systems with a significant impact on public welfare, such as postal and financial services, and will expedite repairs.
Due to the fire, KC (EMC & RF) certifications in South Korea are currently unavailable, with a specific resumption date to be determined. However, KC (Safety) certification services remain unaffected and continue to operate normally.
