2021/03/11 After the EU CENELEC Technical Committee TC108X voted "no" by a two-thirds majority (5 vote “YES”: 11+1 vote “No”), TC 108X officers decide to suspend EN IEC 62368-1:2020/A12:202x work. Therefore, EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (3rd Edition of IEC 62368-1) are unlikely listed in OJEU's LVD (2014/35/EC) and/or RED (2014/53/EC). Likewise, EN IEC 62368-3:2020 (1st Edition), is in conjunction with the 3rd Edition, is sentenced dead.
Many countries in Asia, are actively leveraging IEC 62368-1:2017 (3rdEdition) as a base to develop into local national standards. Such unexpected results will cause uncertainty and chaos against the global 62368-1 conformity. Moreover, huge impact against existing Global Market Access authentication.
The aim to get the standard EN IEC 62368-1 listed will still be followed by TC 108X. However, TC 108X will now focus on working on EN IEC 62368-1:202x (4th Edition of IEC 62368-1:202x) to move forward the future edition.
