Korea's RRA Opinion Collection on Revision of “Notice of Requirements for Conformity Certification of Broadcasting and Communications Equipment”
Recently, the Korea National Radio Research Institute (RRA) announced the revision of the “Notice of Requirements for Conformity Certification of Broadcasting and Communications Equipment” to allow equipment imported into Korea for re-export to be exempted without going through the validation process. In addition, the RRA has provided a list of judgement information and improved the classification system in order to provide a clear definition of the scope of control for conformity certification. According to the Announcement No. 2023-85, the main revisions are as follows:
① Relaxation of management procedures for conformity certification exempted equipment
Devices imported into Korea for the purpose of re-export will be exempted without having to go through the conformity registration exemption confirmation process; The relaxation of the procedure for the management of conformity certification exempted devices will come into effect immediately upon the issuance of the official announcement.
② Clarify the classification system of conformity certification targets
It provides judgement information for equipment with unclear information, clarifies the scope of control of conformity certification, and updates the classification system of conformity certification targets. The classification system of conformity certification targets came into effect on the day following the expiration of six months from the date of publication of the announcement.
Commonly exempted devices are the following products:
1. Radio equipment and instruments category (* microwave ovens; power supplies and lighting equipment under 1000W, etc.);
2. Classes of household appliances (* hoovers; washing machines; air purifiers; air conditioners; water heaters, etc.);
3. Power tools category (* hot air guns; film applicators; welding machines, etc.);
4. Lighting device category (*LED lamps; incandescent lamps; chain lamps; inductive ballasts, etc.);
5. Low-voltage switchgear and control devices category (*electronic switches; electronic circuit breakers; low-voltage motor starters, etc.);
6. Multimedia equipment category (* computers; monitors; solid state drives; electronic blackboards; barcode scanners, etc.);
7. Digital equipment (* projectors; paper shredders; electronic scales, etc.)
The RRA has relaxed the management procedures for conformity certification exempted equipment, which facilitates the importation of products into Korea, and updated the classification system of conformity certification targets and clarified the scope of control to provide guidance for manufacturers.
