ICASA TO REOPEN THE PROCESS TO LICENSE COMMUNITY SOUND BROADCASTERS

Share:

* The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) processes applications for approval of telecommunications and radio equipment. Wireless communication equipment exported to the South African market also needs to apply for type certification from ICASA and must pass the review before it can be sold.

Recently, The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa hereby announces that it will reopen applications for the provision of community sound broadcasting services in December 2024. This includes Community Sound Broadcasting Service licences and associated Radio Frequency Spectrum licences. Following the previous successful licensing round in 2022/2023, where five applicants were awarded licences, ICASA will initiate the new process with an Invitation to Pre-Register. To guide prospective applicants, ICASA also conducted a virtual workshop on July 2024, aiming to clarify application requirements.

The Chairperson of ICASA’s Licensing of Community Radio Broadcasters Council Committee encourages communities to participate,

emphasizing the importance of understanding the Community Broadcasting Services Regulations beforehand.

BTL will continue to pay attention to the latest news and information from ICASA in South Africa, not only providing professional certification services, but also sharing relevant local telecommunications information. Welcome to consult the BTL International Certification Department and Business Department, we will serve you wholeheartedly!
