EMC - Lightning Strike & Surge Immunity Testing How much do you know?
As consumers have higher and higher requirements for the quality of electronic products, especially for Netcom products against lightning and surge, Netcom brand manufacturers on the market have also made higher requirements for lightning protection of their own products (switches, modems, routers, etc.) on the basis of standards.,
Most product regulations require: power port, differential mode/common mode :±1KV/±2KV; Signal port :±1KV
Manufacturer requirements: Power port, differential mode/common mode :±4KV/±6KV; Signal port :DSL port ±6KV& Ethernet port ±2.5KV
In the process of lightning strike & surge immunity test, the selection of CDN (coupled decoupling network) is crucial to the accuracy and reliability of the test results. The following describes the relevant requirements of IEC 61000-4-5 for the selection of CDN
IEC 61000-4-5 requirements for CDN selection are shown in the following figure

a, for AC/DC port CDN:

b, for unshielded asymmetric interconnect CDN:

c, for unshielded symmetric interconnect CDN:

BTL has two CDNS of different designs for unshielded symmetric interconnect testing in IEC 61000-4-5 (commonly used in RJ45 and RJ11 port tests), and both can implement online communication testing.
BTL South China has three sets of lightning/surge test equipment and one set of power line induction and power line contact test equipment required by K.21 regulations, which not only meets the requirements of major brands, but also can quickly digest test projects.
Thet energy of Songshan Lake site: power port ±6KV, signal port ±6KV;
Test energy of Dalang site: power port ±10KV, signal port ±6KV.。

If you want to know more about lightning strike/surge immunity testing, you are welcome to contact the BTL team at any time, BTL will share the most professional and comprehensive information with you.

6G Developments: Past, Present and Future
The formulation of 6G standards has entered a more concrete phase. At the 3GPP RAN Plenary Meeting held in Singapore in June 2026, the industry made progress in multiple key research areas and finalized the timeline for Release 21, which is regarded as the first standard version expected to formally define 6G.
Overview of EN IEC 61000-4-29:2026
The key focus of the 2026 edition is to address new DC power distribution environments, especially higher-voltage DC systems. It also clarifies test generator capability, duration tolerance, current limitation during short interruptions, inrush current verification, result evaluation, and test report requirements. For products using 24 Vdc, 48 Vdc, 380 Vdc, 400 Vdc, 800 Vdc, or other DC input pow
