The Federal de Telecomunicaciones of Mexico (IFETEL) published the technical provision IFT-016-2024 for low-power radio communication devices operating at 30 MHZ to 3GHz in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on Feb 7, 2025. Three days later , IFETEL issued the technical provision IFT-017-2023 for radio communication devices operating on WIFI 5G and WIFI 6E.

The technical provision IFT-016-2024 states the specifications, limits and test methods on low power radio communication devices which use radio spectrum frequency bands within the range of 30 MHz to 3 GHz. It covers the range of frequency including :

But some frequency bands identified for emergency, security, search or rescue communications, and some frequency bands classified as a protected spectrum in the national National Frequency Allocation Table are out of the scope of IFT-016-2024. This technical provision doe not apply to the devices, equipment or products with radio communication by frequency hopping and digital modulation operating in the 902-928 MHZ, 2400-2483.5 MHZ and 5725-5850 MHZ frequencies under the NOM-208-SCFI-2016/ IFT-008-2015.

The technical provision IFT-017-2023 declared the technical requirements for the radio communication systems using wireless access - local area radio networks - radio communication equipment that uses the digital modulation technique and that operates in the bands 5150 MHz-5250 MHz, 5250MHz-5350MHz, 5470MHz-5600MH, 5650 MHz-5725MHz, 5725MHz-5850MHz and 5925MHz-6425MHz.

These two technical provisions will come into force 270 days after publication. The IFT-016-2024 will take effect on November 4, 2025 while the IFT-017-2023 will take effect on November 7, 2025. The devices, equipment or products which are in the scope of these two technical provisions must comply with their technical requirements, and get test reports as well as the Certificates of Conformity (CoCs) by the IFETEL authorized testing laboratories and certification agencies. The approval certificates issued prior will continue to be valid and be subject to review and verification procedures until their expiration date.
