UL 62368-1 4ed Key Points
UL 62368-1, Fourth Edition, was officially released on July 31, 2025, and is expected to become mandatory on February 25, 2027.
The following summarizes some key requirements of UL 62368-1, Fourth Edition, to help guide product design and accelerate time to market.
1. Components certified to UL 60950-1 and UL 60065 are no longer acceptable.
2. It is clarified that inaccessible safety guards must comply with the requirements of 4.4.3.8.
3. If the control of the spread of fire in 6.4.6 is met, the requirements of annex P are not required.
4. Circuits that comply with Annex Q are not considered to comply with PS2.
5. The TS2 limit for wearable devices has been revised to 43-48°C.
6. The test method and limit values in 9.6 have been changed.
7. The rated input current or power of non-Mains products cannot exceed the value indicated on the label.
8. Clarified that interconnecting cables for ES2/ES3/PS3 circuits must comply with G.7.3.
9. Charging of secondary lithium batteries should be stopped when the battery temperature falls below the minimum specified charging temperature.
10. GDTs should comply with the basic insulation withstand voltage test in 5.4.9.1, with test voltages in accordance with Tables 26 and 27.
11. Power delivered to connected devices or accessories through communication ports should be limited to PS2.
12. New part acceptance criteria have been added to G.1, G.2, and G.4.2.
13. Devices and accessories containing button batteries that are accessible to children should comply with UL 4200A.
This requirement applies regardless of whether the button battery is replaceable. (This requirement does not apply to professional equipment.)
Currently, the UL 4200A test data acceptance criteria are as follows:
1. UL Group's authorized laboratory with IEC 62368-1 CBTL certification
2. Utilization of the UL DAP (Data Acceptance Program) or IECEE CTF (Customer Testing Facility) test data acceptance program
3. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission)-accredited laboratory.
4. In-house testing by the UL laboratory.
