The arrival of Bluetooth 6.0 Opened a new era of precise positioning

Share:

On September 4th, Bluetooth 6.0 was officially released, and its biggest highlight is its centimeter level positioning ability, which allows users to track items more accurately. For people who often lose their Bluetooth earphones, it is a great blessing. Imagine that all we need to do is open our phone, enter location, and easily find headphones, pets, and even other items in our home. Thus, the previous record of missing Bluetooth earphones will no longer be a frustrating thing.

On September 4, 2024, the Bluetooth SIG simultaneously released the latest test case reference list TCRL 2024-2 (Core 6.0), marking another milestone for Bluetooth technology in testing and certification. TCRL 2024-2 will be enforced from December 3, 2024, providing a quarterly transition period for Bluetooth device manufacturers.

Update content from V5.4 to 6.0

1. The update of the Test Specification (TS) and Implementation Consistency Statement (ICS) ensures that the test cases are consistent with the latest version of the Bluetooth Core Specification.

2. Added CS protocol, which can achieve bidirectional accurate distance measurement between two Bluetooth devices and achieve centimeter level precise positioning accuracy. This means that whether searching for lost small objects or conducting indoor positioning and navigation, it can be more accurate and efficient.

3. The update of RF-PHY section is mainly to adapt to the channel detection function of Core v6.0, updating the general test case conditions and parameters section.

The update of TCRL 2024-2 (Core 6.0) by the Bluetooth Alliance provides a testing and certification foundation for the development of Bluetooth technology. With the introduction of new features and updated testing standards, Bluetooth device manufacturers can ensure that their products meet the latest technological requirements, providing users with a more stable and efficient Bluetooth experience. As a laboratory accredited by CNAS, BTL can directly obtain certificates, which can efficiently save customer certification time and improve evidence collection efficiency.
